Soda Kiln #9
It has always felt like Christmas every time I get my first look at results from a glaze kiln.
This kiln took two days to fire and three days for a slow cooling.... It was a VERY long 5 days,
but it was so worth the hard work and time!
A huge thank-you is in order to all my
friends and professors at the studio who helped me move my big and heavy sculpture in and out of the kilns :)
Below are photos of my pride and joy from my most recent SODA Glaze Kiln!
This piece is the start to a series I will be completing in the next 5 months. I have never before spent this much time working on the same series, so it has certainly been stretching my patience.
The crazy part for me is looking back at in-progress photos when it was wet clay. I worked
on this particular piece for at least 3 months. That 3 months includes glazing and firing time.
It was certainly a very challenging 3 months, because I completely changed my method of construction
from wheel throwing to coil-building.
It's hard to believe that my Pride and Joy Healthy Reef started from coils...
But don't worry even though there is more coil building in my future I will never abandon
the potter's wheel :)
